↳ Dolorem is generally a very cold person to anyone who she doesn't know. Upon first meeting people, she is very distant and untrusting. She is always paranoid that no matter how kind a person may seem, that they are secretly judging her in some way. By other races, she assumes she's being judged because she is a tiefling, and by other tieflings, she feels judged for being rather odd. She always has her head in the clouds, and always seemed to try to follow the rules and stay out of trouble, which many of her trouble making friends thought strange growing up. She has been known to be very dishonest with strangers, in an effort to keep everyone at arms length. If someone manages to break past the shell she surrounds herself with, she actually reveals herself to be a very kinddemure type of girl. Modest, Shy and gentle, if she trusts you she is easy to take advantage of, which is something she fully realizes. She tries to keep most people at a distance for fear of being mistreated, and often withdraws into her home, usually avoiding social situations. When someone really  earns her trust, she is as loyal as can be and would do most anything a true friend asks of her.

HISTORY
↳ Dolorem grew up on the outskirts of a predominantly human village. A small group of tieflings including her own, and two other families lived in a heavily forested area just half a days walk from the human village. They made her sure keep the place well hidden enough that the more shallow-minded humans would not be able to find them. There were a handful of other children around Dolorem's age as she grew up, and though she did consider them friends, she never truly felt close to any of them. They were wild children, always wanting to run, and climb and play, while Dolorem was content to sit by the candle-light all night long and read. The other Tieflings found her odd, though were rarely outright unkind to her face. Even her parents thought her a bit strange for being so soft, considering she was the daughter of thieves. Despite that, they were supportive and loving and always brought her any books or candles they could get their hands on.

It was when Dolorem grew into her teens that her wistful nature began to cause problems for her little clan. She was very very interested in the human village, ignoring the warnings of the others to not go there, to avoid being seen by the humans, and stay hidden. She wanted to see the town and the things it had to offer. Her parents had told her before that there was a library in town, that had a large collection of books, and Dolorem longed to see it, after spending most of her life in the same place.

So, one night, when the rest of her clan was chatting around the fire, she draped a cloak over her horns and ventured out into the village. She made sure that she would arrive late enough in the night that most of the humans would hopefully be sleeping, and when she got there town did appear empty, without a single candle flame visible through any window. She crept through the roads and took in the sights of all the buildings. She stopped when she noticed a sign attached to an overhang in the shape of a book, and she became excited by the prospect. She just wanted to peak into the window for just a moment, so see how many books were inside. In her excitement to see the bookstore, she tripped, over what she wasn't sure, but she fell forward into the facade of the building, and the noise stirred the humans inside. She could hear them moving and whispering through the walls, and before she could pick herself up one of them quickly put silently opened the front door. It was an old man with a long beard and a sleeping bonnet on, holding up a candlelit lantern in his feeble hand. She wasn't sure if she should flee or stay still in the hopes that he would not notice her, but both of her options were erased by the light of the candle as the old man turned and held the lantern out to her face, illuminating her inhuman eyes. The old man's eyes widened, and she braced herself for a scream. He must have thought she was a thief. He must have.

She closed her eyes tightly, and winced, but no scream came. She looked back up at the old man, who was peering over his shoulder, into the house, and then he looked back at her. He brought his index finger up to his lips for a moment, and then waved his hand at her, beckoning her to leave. She was shocked, she had always been told that humans hated tieflings. The old man looked back into his house again, and Dolorem silently got to her feet, and left the village, making sure that no one was behind her the whole way home.

After that night, Dolorem started making frequent trips to the bookstore under the cover of night. The first time she came tapping on his windowpane, the old man was surprised, but soon became accustom to the little tiefling girl showing up on his doorstep during the darkest hour of the night. He even began leaving a lit candle in the window for her, to let her know she was welcome. He recommended books for her to read and discuss, and asked her opinions on the stories he was writing himself. She finally felt accepted and understood by someone. She even met the old man's wife, who was just as warm and kind, but much less willing to lose out on sleep to visit with a bookish girl.

Everything was going smoothly until the night Dolorem went to visit the old man, and she found the candle not lit. She peaked through the windows, confused. He'd always left the candle on for her. It appeared dark inside, but she could hear muffled sounds, so she tapped lightly on the window. Dolorem had become comfortable and trusting in her frequent visits to the bookstore, wherein nothing bad had ever happened. She no longer even thought that someone besides the old couple would be awake and roaming the village at this time of night. She suddenly felt a pressure on her wrist and the sensation of her body being whipped around. She was too shocked to speak and was suddenly face-to-face with an angry looking young man. She didn't even have time to utter a defense before the man's face changed from anger to utter outrage. His grip tightened on her, and he began shouting. Accusing her of killing the old man. A feeling of dread washed over her body as lanterns began to appear in doorways of people being awoken by the commotion and coming to investigate. The old man's wife came out of her house and saw Dolorem. The old woman's face was filled with fear, and she looked ready to come to Dolorem's rescue, but, knowing that the old woman would have to pay consequences for defending a tiefling, Dolorem quickly ripped her wrist away from the shouting man, and ran back into the forest. She lead the villagers who would follow her in the wrong direction until she was able to slip out of their sight and return home.

After that, Her clan was incensed that she would betray them like this, put them in jeopardy like this. They would have to relocate because of her, give up the lives they'd built here because of her.  Her efforts to defend herself, apologize, and explain all fell on deaf ears. Eventually the clan got word that the old woman had supported the claim that Dolorem had killed her husband, that she was wanted for murder, and the humans were looking for her. Though she held no ill-feelings towards the old woman for lying, she was sure she had her reasons, she couldn't help but feel betrayed, and more alone than ever.

So, She decided to run. She gathered her most important possessions and left when no one was around to see her go. She traveled for years, keeping hidden and never staying anywhere for too long, never getting close to anyone, until one night she stumbled upon a little town called Aequalis. It seemed different. It seemed welcoming. It seemed far enough away from anyone who may have heard of her that she may be able to make a life there.

She's such a precious girl, just wanted to read the books but instead got tangled up with the old man's death and accused of murder- //wheezes

Not to mention that her personality sounds interesting to me, she has some things in common with my own tiefling character so it would be awesome if our characters could get to meet one day. QuQ <3
