Desperation (Roran x Yuaei)Bloody feet slipped on the uneven ground. Roran yelped weakly as the rocks beneath him scattered and his face careened towards the cold earth. For a moment, all he could do was lay crumpled as his breath misted in the taiga air. Not so very long ago, he’d walked this path with a spring in his step and a song in his heart. Now, he felt as grey and indistinct inside as the foggy woodland around him.
He could understand only vaguely what had happened. Even the fight, if such a word could be used to describe the routing of Tsuii’s band, was a blur of confusion and fear in his mind. Ajax and Garrow had found them and Roran had thought it meant, finally, that he would go home to Vrael and Adurna where he belonged. But then - then -...

She saw the streak of clean silver-and-tan fur on his cheek tracing where a tear had just rolled. She drew her tongue over the spot in a comforting lick as she crouched beside him. “Okay, Rory,” she said softly, “If Tollek can be saved, we will do it. Please, take me to him.” She watched him, hoping that he would have the strength to rise again.

“Th...thank yo-ou.” A pitiful whine escaped as Rory waited for the blackness to recede from his vision. Everywhere hurt, the fall re-aggravated wounds that had started to numb themselves prior. It was too hard to muster a convincing tone, but maybe the repetition would count for something. “Thank you.”

Tsuii and Tollek's group was attacked by members of Roran's old pack, leaving the small entourage scattered and many of them badly wounded.
Roran and Tollek end up close to the borders of Highvalley and, unable to continue, hole up nearby. Yuaei provides sorely needed aid, and maybe even a chance at a new start. ♥
