Memories - CV3

As the two entered the cave, Lir was the first to realize that something wasn’t right from the scent on the cave draft. He neighed softly to Savitr in warning. “We aren’t alone.” Not a moment later a dark shape could be seen in the shadows. Lir and Savitr both backed up as the new figure stepped into the light. A blue roan stallion with deep grey-black fur. He looked nervous. “Who are you?” Lir demanded. Savitr watched from behind.

“My name is Sinner,” the stallion said. Lir eyed him coolly, as if wondering if he was telling the truth.

Are you alright?” Savitr asked, stepping forward to stand beside Lir. He must have noticed the other’s anxiety.

Sinner hesitated, glancing over his shoulder, into the shadows of the cave. I was hoping to rest in this cave… but there’s something in there, it’s strange.”

Lir looked all the more cynical, What might that be?

Sinner turned around, gesturing with his muzzle, “I’ll show you.”

With a look of suspicion from Lir, the two reds followed the blue roan into the cave.

“Right here…” A bundle of cloth was crumpled on the ground to one side, filthy against the dirt and stone. The glint of metal fixings could faintly be seen in the dim light.

Some human thing. They must have forgotten it” Lir said, taking a cautious sniff, “Still smells like them. It can’t be too old.”

The other stallions weren’t surprised to hear Lir’s conclusion, though all were concerned with what to do about it. Do you think it’s still a safe place to sleep?” Savitr asked.

Lir paused in thought. He had no experience with humans in his young life, so he didn’t know the extent of their danger. But he had instincts enough to tell him that this might not be the best place. Better safe than sorry. There are plenty of caves in this area, after all. I’m sure we can find a better one.” It was scary to know, however, that there could be humans in the area...

Savitr nodded, and glanced at Sinner, You are welcome to join us.” Lir didn’t like the sound of that. Savitr was company enough. But he said nothing. At least this stallion also seemed rather docile.

The blue roan might have noticed Lir's unhappiness at the idea, or else maybe he really wasn't interested in companions, No, thank you. I should get more ground covered anyway before the day is out.” Lir was relieved about that.

"Safe travels," Savitr said as they exited the cave. Lir nodded in acknowledgment as well.

"Thanks," Sinner said, trotting off his own way.

Lir watched him go for a moment before turning. “Alright. Let’s go.” The pale red stallion lead the way off into the afternoon.

Lol, Sinner and Savitr are so jumpy at the barest hints of something unfamiliar. :giggle: Though it's probably really better to be safe than sorry in their case. I really like Lir's pose in this picture, and especially the way his mane falls over on both sides of his neck.
