Description

This is a commission done for me by
www.deviantart.com/thetundragh…

This is a C'tekian
The C'tekians are a species in that exists in my AU Star Trek New Start verse.
www.deviantart.com/seekhim/gal…

They control the C'Tek System and the Bortiz-System

They are members of the Norayis Alliance which controls half of the Norayis Sector
Because the C'tekians control the south-western territories of the sector, they are called the Keepers of the Eastern Gate

They are neighbors with the Nlians, , Tkarites, and Rylarin

Norayis Sector by SeekHim

SYSTEM INFO
They originate in the C'Tek System in the Norayis Sector

C'Tek System by SeekHim

The C'tek System's sun, C’Tek Prime, is a M type Red Dwarf star.
Red Dwarfs are the smallest, dimmest and coolest of stars.
Because they give off less light and heat, planets have to be very close in order to support life.
Planets that are that close are usually tidally locked to the star, which means that the planet doesn’t rotate.
One half perpetually faces the star, while and the other half perpetually faces away from it.
On one side its always day and on another its always night.

C'TEK I
C'tek I is the 1st planet from the sun
Its an M class (Earthlike) world twice the size and mass of Earth.
Its population is 2 billion

C'Tek: Side View by SeekHim

C'tek I is a tidally locked world
The planet doesn’t rotate, so there are no seasons or a day/night cycle.
On the Night Side the sun never rises
On the Day Side the sun never sets.
The planet’s large mass, heavy gravity, magnetic field and thick atmosphere allow heat to circulate around the planet.

There are three continents and several islands
The planet is very geologically active and there are several large volcanoes.

DAY SIDE/AMYASEVETEK (The Realm of C'tek)
The Day Side is the home of the C'tekians.
On the Day Side the sun never sets and it's always day
The climate ranges from sub-tropical to tropical.
The terrain consists of dense rainforests, swamps, marshes, and bogs.
Plantlife is either black or red.
Black plantlife can better absorb sunlight and so is taller (trees)

There are two continents:
Zahiranesetek (The Realm of C'tek as it Lowers)
On the western continent, depending on the location it ranges from noon to evening

Asenefaretek (The Realm of C'tek as it Rises)
On the eastern continent, depending on the location, it is always either morning to noon.

Storm Zone (Subsolar Point)
The point directly facing the sun (subsolar point) consists of a giant, unending hurricane.
In this area there are permanent high winds and torrential rains.

All the plants in this area are black.
Plants have also adapted by anchoring securely into the soil and sprouting long flexible leaves that do not snap.
Animals here rely on infrared vision.

BORDERLANDS (Terminator Region)
Along the terminator region (where the light and dark sides meet) the land is in perpetual twilight.
The climate here is arctic.
The terrain consists of red tundra and glaciers.
There are frequent and heavy snowstorms.
It is here that stars are visible

NIGHT SIDE (The Great Dark)
On the Night Side the sun never rises and its always night
The land is in permanent darkness and perpetually frozen.
The ocean basins are deep enough for sea water to flow beneath the ice.

In many areas there is geothermal venting and volcanic rifts.
In these areas there are are non-photosynthetic plants and bioluminescent pools with micro-organisms
Tiny burrowing animals also live near the pools.

In the past many tribes who lived in the Borderlands would venture into the Night Side as a Trial of Courage.
The bioluminescent pools were considered sacred and fighting there was forbidden.
The entire region was considered a 'Realm of Terror and Wonder'.
Since then the C'tekians have established some mining settlements by the largest vents and rifts.

BIOLOGY AND APPEARANCE
C’tekians are reptilian and serpentine in appearance.
Although reptilian in appearance they have warm blooded tendencies in that they can control their body temperature.
Because of this they are able to exist in cold climates.

Standing upright they range from 7 to 9 feet tall
Their lifespan is 150+ years

They are covered in smooth scales that are patterned in stripes or spots.
They are colored in various shades of black and red and come in an immense array of patterns.
They shed their skins throughout their lifespan.

Most of their lower body mass is comprised of knotted muscle.
This gives them tremendous strength and the ability to move with frightening speed and agility.

They are excellent swimmers and can hold their breath underwater for over an hour.
They are as comfortable in trees as on land and many are arboreal.

They have heightened senses of scent and hearing.
Due to constant venturing into the Storm Zone they can see in both color and infra-red.
They can also detect another lifeforms' heat patterns.

C’tekians are carnivorous and prefer their food live or freshly killed.
They don't need to eat everyday.
Juveniles can go for two Earth weeks without food.
Adults can last for nearly an Earth year.
Typically adults eat every 10 days and Juveniles every three.

They are highly skilled hunters and take great pleasure in stalking and outwitting prey.
If provoked they are deadly fighters and do not hesitate to eat their enemies.

They are constrictors, capable of crushing and swallowing a grown man whole.
They also have poisonous fangs with a lethal venom.

They have sharp claws which they use skillfully.
The end of their tails ends with a sharp barb which they use as a weapon

They are extremely adaptable and can be found in every environment on C’tek, from the Storm Zone to the Night Side.

ENVIRONMENTS
"Our coils traverse the endless marsh, the endless storm and the endless dark. In all environments we endure."

C'tekians live in a variety of environments from swamp, rainforest, temperate forest and tundra.
Some tribes live in cities/towns, others live in villages, while others are nomadic.
Some tribes spend most of their time in the water.
Mining settlements have been made in the Night Side.

The land is regarded as sacred and cities/buildings are constructed to alter the landscape as little as possible.
Some settlements are arboreal

C’tekians who live in warm areas seldom wear clothes, although they are very fond of bracelets, armlets and necklaces.
C’tekians in cold areas wear cloaks and shirts.

SEXUALITY
Reproducing couples are called Breeding Partners
Partners are selected based on genetic compatibility, physical and mental fitness.

Reproduction
C’tekians are oviparous and lay eggs.
Females lay between three to five eggs at a time.

Females are able to retain their eggs inside their bodies, until they’re ready to hatch.
They are also capable of holding their eggs inside them until they actually hatch,  producing live young.
This is practiced among C’tekians who live in cold environments.

PSYCHOLOGY
C’tekians are highly intelligent and born problem-solvers with a love for challenge and complexity.
They pride themselves on both their cunning and patience, which developed from their hunting skills.
In hunting or combat, they take as much pleasure out of outwitting the prey/enemy as physically overpowering them.

Their love of mental challenge has resulted in them also excelling in intellectualism, science and philosophy.

They are intensely curious and have a deep drive to test themselves.
This has resulted in a great love of travel.

C'tekians have strict codes of honor.

The C'tekians are a hunting species.
In a hunt it is vital to always familiarize oneself both with your surroundings and your prey.
This has led to C'tekians always carefully studying both their surroundings and those around them.

LANGUAGE
C’tekians have a complex language based on both sound, hand and body movement.
They use both verbal sounds and the sounds made when their scales move over the ground.

As emotions are directly and immediately translated into body movement, a C'tekian can immediately
tell if someone is attempting to deceive them.

Written language is comprised of complex glyphs.
The meaning changes depending on the way the symbol is drawn or the color used.

GOVERNMENT
The planet is unified under the Alliance of the Coil, aka the C'tekian Coil

Government has long been tribal in nature
Land masses are divided not by countries, but tribal territories, each controlled by a specific tribe.

The planet is governed by the Great Conclave, which is made up of the First and Second from each Tribal Conclave.
The High Conclave meets in the Great Hall, located in the capital.
It is governed by the First of the Great Conclave
Beneath him/her is the Second of the Great Conclave

Government is regimented and authoritarian, but tempered by inter-dependency between factions and bureaucracy.

SOCIETY
Society is tribal at its core and in the past loyalty to one's tribe was absolute.
Today one's primary loyalty is to the C'tekian Coil, but tribal loyalty is still strong.

Society is a meritocracy and one's place and rank is to be determined by oneself alone.
One is expected to gain status through strength, cunning, skill and courage.

Society is highly structured and ritualistic.

Professions
Professions are divided into different Houses:
House of Art
House of Ceremony
House of Craft
House of Engineering
House of Envoys
House of Industry
House of Instruction
House of Law
House of Labor
House of Healing
House of Warriors
House of Provision
House of Scholars
House of Science
House of Trade

No one House is considered more important than the other.

Each House within a territory is governed by a First.
Beneath him/her is a Second

FAMILIES AND LIFE CYCLES
Although records are kept of lineages, ties between parents and children are faint to non-existent.
One’s responsibility is to one’s tribe and the Coil, not the family.
Individuals must succeed or fail on their own, not on family merit.

Eggs
Females usually lay their eggs in Hatching Chambers, which are tended by Hatching Guardians.
The parents, number of offspring and their genders are recorded.

Juvenile (Birth-11)
Young C’tekians (Juveniles) are self sufficient from birth.

For the first eleven years of their lives Juveniles have no markings but are solid colored.
During this time they have no rank or position.

Juveniles have no names and go by short nicknames among themselves.
Adults address a Juvenile simply as 'Juvenile.'
A Juvenile always addresses an adult as  'Elder.'

Juveniles live in specialized barracks with other Juveniles their age.
Although they know who their parents are, they have no more contact with them than any other Elder.
Some parents completely ignore their offspring and even those who do acknowledge them treat them
no differently than any other Juvenile.

From Hatching to age five Juveniles attend classes under Instructors.
Here they learn the general history, legends and traditions of their people.

Juveniles also observe and learn from other Elders.
Although Elders do not provide physical care to Juveniles, they are expected to pass on knowledge.
Whenever a Juvenile asks a question of an Elder or requests information, they are immediately answered.

Juveniles are to show absolute respect and obedience to Elders at all times.
Juveniles are allowed to attend adult meetings and gatherings but may not speak, only observe and listen.

From age 5-11 Juveniles stop attending classes and conduct their own studies.
If a Juvenile is interested in medicine they spends their time around Elders who practice medicine, observing and learning from them.

Junior Elder (12-49)
At the age of twelve, Juveniles display markings for the first time, although they're faint.
After taking Trials they are considered Junior Elders (Young Adults).
They are given a name and then assigned to a House with a position and rank.

Although they now have rank, Junior Elders are subordinate to those older than them.
Junior Elders may speak at meetings and gatherings, but must show absolute respect at all times

Elder (50+
C'tekians are considered full Elders at the age of fifty.
Their markings are fully darkened and they are also at full size.
Its also at this age that they are able to reproduce.

A C'tekian must pass through another series of Trials to attain the status of Elder.
Extensions are added to their name.

Only Elders are allowed to be members of Conclaves.

CULTURE
Religion
For thousands of years the sun, C'tek, was worshiped as their supreme god.
The C'tekians regard themselves as the Children of C'tek.

The worlds of their system are also regarded as the Children of C'tek and named in order of their 'birth":
C'tek I, C'tek II, C'tek III, C'tek IV, C'tek V

Red and black are regarded as sacred colors.

C'tekians believe that when you consume something you consume not only the body but their strength and essence.
They eat their dead so that their essences will live on inside their tribe.
They eat their enemies so that their essence will not be able to strengthen their people.

Ritual and Ceremony
C'tekians are very much into ritual and ceremony.
Every C'tekian is expected to know ritual songs, chants and performances.
As a hunting species, many rituals and ceremonies are based on the hunt.

Rites of Passage
C’tekians are fiercely competitive and constantly test themselves, both physically and mentally.
For millennia one proved ones prowess in both hunting and the battlefield and these are still highly valued.
They particularly enjoy engaging in ritual duels to hone their skills.

Rising in status/rank/position is done through successfully passing a series of Trials:
Trials of Strength
Trials of Cunning
Trials of Skill
Trials of Courage

Juveniles are only considered adults after successfully passing all four Trials.
Many go on lengthy Treks (Journeys) to combine all four.

Examples of Treks are:
Journeying to a Death Swamp
Making a trip to the Dark Lands (Night Side)

Names
Names are very important as they are not just a title but something that describes your history and character.
Names are long and multi-syllable and each sound has a descriptive meaning.
For the first eleven years of their lives C'tekians don't have names but instead go by short nicknames among those their age.
At twelve they are given names and only then are considered adults.
Upon becoming Elders they extend their names.

Art
C'tekians enjoy art and employ elaborate craftsmanship.
They are very fond of bracelets, armlets and necklaces.
Every piece of jewelry has symbolic meaning.
Artistic talents are considered to be mental challenges and every C'tekian attempts to practice at least one artistic endeavor.

Hunting/Food
"You eat what you kill."

C'tekians are strictly carnivorous and prefer food either live or freshly killed.
If one is hungry, they are expected to go out and hunt.

C'tekians are expected to hunt their own food.
This applies to off world guests as well.
The only time food is provided to someone else is if they are sick or injured.

When a C'tekian hunts something small enough to swallow whole they hunt alone and without weapons.
When they hunt something larger they hunt with a knife/spear/javelin/bow and then cut the body into smaller pieces.
C'tekians frequently participate in group hunts for large prey.
Only those who participate in a hunt may eat from it.

C'tekian embassies and hotels grow gardens and orchards to provide fruits and vegetables for off world guests.
There are also pools where there are fish to catch.
In the gardens smaller animals are kept that guests can hunt if they want meat.
Guests are required to hunt, fish, collect and prepare their own food.

C'tekians on ships keep small animals aboard their ships to eat.

MILITARY
"In combat you kill, or you die."
"Combat ends in death. Yours or your enemy's."

C’tekians are deadly fighters with a long warrior tradition.
If attacked a C'tekian will fight to the death, not stopping until they're dead or their enemy is.

They are skilled in unarmed combat, using their fangs, claws, coils and stingers to deadly effect.

Their favorite hand- held weapons are spears.
They also used bladed weapons including axes, knives and bows.
In combat they often lace their weapons with toxins.

Although they prefer hand to hand combat, they do have energy based weapons technology.

The C’tekian military is called the Warrior Guard
The military is run by the Warrior Conclave.
At the head is the 1st of the Guard
Beneath him/her is the 2nd of the Guard

"You eat what you kill."
C'tekians eat their enemies in the belief that when you consume something you not only consume their body
but their strength and essence.

An example of this was demonstrated in 2182 when a C'tekian freighter was attacked and boarded by Nausican pirates.
The C'tekians didn't leave a single Nausican alive or any bodies left.

SHIPS
C’tekian ships are smaller than Starfleet's but powerful
Types
Small Freighter       200 m
Freighter                300 m
Large Freighter       400 m

Small Transport      250 m  (About the size of a Miranda class)
Transport               350 m  (Size of an Intrepid class)
Large Transport      450 m (Size of a Nebula class)

Cruiser                  450 m (Size of a Neubla class)
Heavy Cruiser        600 m (Slightly smaller than a Galaxy class)

Captain's are called the Ship 1st
Their second in command is the Ship 2nd

ECONOMY
The C'tekians have long time trade contacts with their neighbors, the Tkarites, Nlians and Rylarin
They have also made trade contacts with several other species

SCIENCE/TECHNOLGY
C'tekians have an intense desire to both gain information and to test themselves mentally.
As a result they excel in both the sciences and engineering.

C'tekians are masters of the study of poisons and toxins.

TRANSPORTATION
C'tekians dislike ground transport except for emergencies and there are few roads.
If C'tekians have to travel somewhere quickly they use air transport.
Other than that they prefer to walk or take water transport

RELATIONS WITH OTHER SPECIES
The C'tekians have long had a close friendship with the Tkarites. (They were each other's First Contacts)
Both are cunning, deadly warriors and both enjoy physical and mental sparring and dueling.
The C'tekians call the Tkarites "The ones who carry their fangs in their hands."

They have friendly relations with the Rylarin and respect them for their organizational skills, as well as for being fellow predators.
The call the Rylarin, "Those whose fangs drain life.'

They also have friendly relations with the Nlians.
The Nlians gave the C'tekians aid when it came to organizing food gardens for off-world guests.
Like the C'tekians, Nlians live in a harsh environment and go on treks when they come of age.
When Nlians travel with C'tekians they don't always participate in hunts, but they keep up and never complain.
The C'tekians call the Nlians "The Gentle Ones with Hidden Strength."

The Tkarites also have trade contacts with several of the United Federation of Planet.

HISTORY

Pre- 114 B.C.
Society is comprised of a series of tribes.
Tribes frequently wage wars and raids on neighboring tribes.

Loyalty to one's tribe is absolute and it is forbidden to harm a member of one's own tribe.

Tribes that live in the Borderlands frequently venture to the Night Side as a Trial of Courage.
The bioluminescent springs located there are regarded as sacred and fighting there forbidden.

114 B.C.
The Alliance of the Coil is formed
The tribes of the Southeastern Peninsula on the eastern continent, unite under a single banner.

114 B.C.-1727
Over the next several centuries, the Alliance slowly spreads, conquering surrounding tribes.
Tribes that are part of the Alliance are forbidden from fighting each other.
As a result, one on one dueling becomes increasingly popular.

Peaceful co-existence and the sharing of resources cause Alliance territories to prosper.
As time passes other tribes begin to join freely.

Yeah, I can't help but look at this and feel like it's a character from a TCG or something, haha
