Discord Day

To be honest, I didn't know about this holiday. But once I did, I guess I had to get "chaotic"!

Today we celebrate the Spirit of Chaos and Disharmony. Before he became the kooky, whacky, unpredictable friend we all know and love, this Draconequus was the kooky, whacky, unpredictable enemy that threatened the harmony in Equestria just some time after the Pillars of Equestria disappeared into Limbo. Despite the powerful Alicorn princesses protecting Equestria, Discord had managed to upend life there. But before his mischief would last another millennium, Princesses Celestia and Luna first used the Elements of Harmony on the mixed-up, mismatched trickster by turning him to stone. Another thousand years later, he returned to wreak havoc once more, by turning rain clouds into cotton candy sprinkling chocolate, causing corn to explode into popcorn and apples to grow so large their trees bend, turning rabbits into rabbucks (I'll explain later) and pigs into Pigasi, have buildings float, buffalo dance like ballerinas, and ponies to defy the laws of gravity. It was so chaotic. When Princess Celestia sends Twilight and her best friends to stop him, he continues with ploys to divide and conquer the friends by making them exhibit traits that are the opposite of the Elements they represent. He almost succeeded, but the Magic of Friendship finds a way to heal all things, even the Mane 6's relationship. And once again, Discord is turned back into stone.

Near the end of Season 3, Princess Celestia decides to give Discord a second chance and have him use his topsy-turvy magic for good instead of evil, and appoints Fluttershy for the task. As soon as Discord is free again, he still plots to cause mischief, and everypony knows it. However, Fluttershy insists to use kindness, and becomes his first and only true friend. From that point on, Discord has made an effort - even though he did betray his friends to join the evil Tirek once - and he is trying to be better. But you can't always keep a leash on this silly hodgepodge. He still LOVES chaos and mischief, and if there's trouble in Equestria, it is likely that Discord will be found nearby!

To be honest, Discord was my most favorite My Little Pony villain before "Keep Calm and Flutter On." He is now one of my favorite characters in the show, as well as one of my favorite reformed villains. He doesn't just have a mixed-up exterior, everything he does and his magic are all whacky doodle kooky. "He's the one character where we can break all of the rules of the show," said Jim Miller, and he was SOOO right. He can have a reference to something that's more modern day. Even though he was like Loki, a trickster, he is more like Genie from "Aladdin." He is overpowered (perhaps with phenomenal cosmic power, or semi-phenomenal, merely cosmic), but he uses his power to throw everything out of order for laughs for him, his friends, and for us. He just loves to break the fourth wall with his parodies and references. He's a hoot. We ain't never had a friend like he!

And even before "KCFO," I actually hoped he could be reformed because if he is the spirt of chaos, then he should use them naturally, as in, not for evil, but as the universe intended. After all, chaos isn't purely evil, it's just a dark part of our existence. Besides, when you think about it, even Pinkie exhibits some chaotic moments. Plus, since we're talking about "Aladdin," its television show featured a character who filled the same role of Discord - Chaos. This blue, winged Cheshire cat like being also spreads and may even be the embodiment of chaos. However, he never used his powers for evil. He did seem to lean towards good as he intended no malice in his tricks, only to make them exciting and unpredictable. He wanders from place to place (even moving through dimensions) to "make things more lively" (i.e. wreaking havoc) wherever he deems the situation to be boring. So I was hoping that if Discord were reformed he could play out that role his feline predecessor played out in "Aladdin." Looks like I got my wish, and, although I remained cautious during the episode, I was still hoping against hope we would see the light.

For this pic, I decided to have Discord back in his old environment again, where everything was so "discorded." I threw in some cotton candy chocolate milk rain clouds, pigasi, and those rabbucks. For the rabbucks, I made them myself, and the legs were a PAIN!  But it was worth it in the end. Now, why I call them rabbucks? Well, their anatomy is based on paleontologist Dougal Dixon's futuristic descendants of our rabbits of the same name. According to his "After Man: A Zoology of the Future," 50 million years in the future, rabbits would evolve to fill in the niche of the extinct ungulate mammals. The discorded rabbits remind me of their possible descendants. Is it possible that Discord saw the future and decided to revolutionize some of the present wildlife millions of years early? It is a mystery. 

Oh, and in the spirit of this chaotic guy, I had a lot of fun fiddling with the greeting. You can tell how turbid it looks. I don't know if you guys think this fits, but I think it does. For Discord, he deserves to have such a kooky, discordant greeting.
