Description

Mastermind
Real Name:
Mindy Mooney
Powers: Mutant Physiology; Teleportation; Electricity Generation; Type 1 Supernatural Strength; Enhanced Intelligence, Swordsmanship & Gunmanship
First Appearance: Deviantart (1/11/2019)
Default Equipment: - Morningstar of Knowledge - A medieval morningstar that contains a brain inside of a spiked, plexiglass head. When this weapon connects with a sapient beings' head, the morningstar will actually drain a portion of knowledge from the bludgeoned and into the wielder's brain.

Mindy Mooney is the Open Source remake of Ace Magazine's Mastermind, who first appeared in Lightning Comics vol. 2 #1. This version of Mastermind is the "Nemesis" of TomBat. Well, nemesis maybe too strong a word, more like TomBat's most tenacious foe. Someone who despite being easily beaten each and every time like all the other villains in TomBat's rogues gallery, always keeps her chin held high and a disproportionate amount of optimism that "This Time" she will finally beat The Greatest Hero in the Universe, or at least last longer then 30 seconds against her foe.

Mindy Mooney was originally a genius, teen socialite that always felt like she was second banana to Martha Benjamin aka TomBat. As no matter what she'd done, Martha always stole the spotlight from her with her own antics. Mindy tried to get any advantage she can over Martha, even to the point of annexing a mad scientist's castle because it was located near constant thunderstorms, where she set up equipment that is powered by these storms. And these devices did manage to grant Mindy superhuman abilities, though this came with the side effect of her skin turning white and her eyes red. But none of her abilities and her inventions made her more difficult for her dreaded nemesis.

After her 50th defeat against TomBat, Mastermind was all set for her next tussle, having her "Death Patrol" at the ready. The Death Patrol being all of the other villains that were taken down by TomBat such as Madcap Molly; Master Printer; The Crime Baron; Slider Glider; Book Worm; Poker Face; and The Nasty Gnat. However, while they were out committing crimes and fighting the police to draw TomBat out, she never came. Mastermind even went so far as to have her group raid the city's TV News Station to flat out say on-air to the entire state that TomBat is over an hour late, and that it isn't professional courtesy to keep her waiting.

One of the news anchors fearfully informed Mastermind that TomBat hasn't been seen for months. Mindy was flabergasted by this news. She couldn't believe that TomBat would be this inconsiderate to her and her team, and she planned this for months! Sighing in disappointment, Mindy looked at the cameras and ask TomBat, if she's listening, to meet her and her gang at her villain lair to talk, she knows where it is. The other villains in The Death Patrol were surprised that Mastermind would just drop everything like this and leave, some of them said that they can now commit crimes without TomBat's interference.

Mastermind told them in response, "What's the point of victory if the other player doesn't bother to show up."

So Mindy and her Death Patrol ended up back at her lair, where they discussed what they should do, if TomBat doesn't actually come back. Some of them like The Crime Baron loved the idea of not dealing with someone that could be considered the most proficient hero in the universe, while Mastermind was completely stumped, as her entire existence as a supervillain revolved around trying to beat Martha.

As they discussed, they suddenly felt the entire room quake, which was strange since the castle wasn't built anywhere near a fault line. Suddenly a barrier of light started to erupt from the ground around the lair and surrounded it. Startled by this event, The Death Patrol headed towards the hanger where Mastermind's personal craft was stored so they could escape, but one by one, each villain fell unconscious until only Mastermind was left, she felt the ground beneath her shift upwards before falling unconscious herself.

What seemed like hours later, Mastermind and her fellow villains finally woke up. They headed outside to see what's going on, only to find that not only was the lair now in the middle of a massive lake, but the sky above was a rainbow of colors with the sun high overhead, with some of the thunderclouds still floating above the lair at a fixed point.

I'm getting strong MegaMind vibes with the whole "Relentlessly optimistic that she'll win this time!"+breakdown when her hero is taken out out of the equation.

I personally think she'd feel forced into heroism, in the hopes that with the alignments inverted, maybe now she could get a win.
