This week's update (Febuary 3, 2019) will be the last one before the hiatus starts. Virtrena will resume on March 3, 2019.
In the four - nearing five - years of running Virtrena, all hiatuses were forced by technical difficulties. At one point not past Chapter Two, my laptop back then died and I had to buy a new one. Another one was fairly recently in 2017 when my pen tablet died. Stuff like those. But now, as much as I don't like hiatuses as it halts the webcomic, I feel like I need to pull off the webcomic's first deliberate hiatus for a month.
I want to dedicate February 2019 to the following:
- Building up buffer pages. With weekly updates, the best I could do is to maintain a specific number of pages. For example, I have 8 buffer pages. With weekly updates, I have to post one page and draw one page in the same week, so I still end up having 8 pages. There's nothing bad with that, but I feel I'll need more backup pages with how busy my life is getting with uni work and other real life happenings.
- Working on Alchia I'm bent on starting to draw Alchia this summer vacation not less than a few months away. Working on the designs and script for it at a decent pace as a one-man-army while I'm maintaining Virtrena's page count at once is easier said than done. I'll try to get myself used to working on both projects equally during this month.
I really want the webcomic to wrap up as soon as I can. But I'm willing to risk one month for the reasons I just explained. Hope you folks understand.
FINAL! Alchia Update
Hey there, it's been a while! I know I haven't been the most active on the site ever since this project started and my post reach is definitely dead by now, but this will be the final Alchia update before the release. To sum up the current situation, the comic has currently 112 drawn pages with 8 more pages planned. That's way more pages than my estimated 120 total pages last journal update. That's not the final page count yet as the comic is currently an estimated 80%-85% into the script. I'm pushing for a release for at least the first half of this year. The comic has suffered a number of hiatus, last minute rewrites and redesigns, and art blocks along the way, but hopefully I could push for a release for the first half of this year. As of the moment I'm still busy worrying about my thesis defense in a few days and wrapping up the last requirements for my uni stuff before I should be able to fully focus on wrapping up the comic. Just one more final stretch, both for my comic and
Where Have I Been!?
So, as you may have noticed, I've barely posted any art throughout the year. The reason being that I've been deep into working on Alchia and have started drawing the pages since December 2020 after three years of working on the script alongside Virtrena. As of the moment, the one-shot is now at around 60 pages, and is estimated to be around 120 when it's completed, judging by the current situation. No promises on a solid release date yet as I'm working on it on top of college and personal life. Just wanted to drop by and inform you guys still following me through it, who I can't thank enough. I hope the finished comic will be to your liking!
2020 UPDATEEE
Aight, so. 2020 has been insane so far and it's only January. At least in the aspect of world happenings.
Last year, I suffered a massive burnout which I'm going to try fighting this year. I feel like I need to step back up and make up for lost time (then again, it's not lost if it's spend on healing, I guess).
So here's my first plans for the year:
Virtrena return from hiatus will only be covering until the end of the current chapter (10). After that I'm going back on a short break to make sure Chapter 11 will be the best it can be because it'll be one of the most important chapters in the story.
Alchia will be on hold unti Chapter 10 is
Semi-End of 2019 UPDATE
It's me, ya boi. It's been a while since I did a journal update so let's get this out there.
MAIN PROJECT STUFF
I've recovered from the hard disk wipe a few months ago pretty well, though it's a shame most of my files for Virtrena were wiped out. The main thing that's intimidating me going back to drawing Virtrena is that I'll need to recreate the UI templates (the stuff found in screens all over the comic) as well as page templates (like the intermission pages') and having to redraw all the characters that I had portraits for to be used in the comic (for their IDs and stuff).
So far, progress on drawing for Virtrena has been going well, t
