Description

V.C. Ranger
Real Name:
Bobby Jones
Powers: Special Ops Mastery
Equipment: An experimental prototype of a High-Tech Exoskeleton that can create Hard Light Holographic Projections. Strangely what could be it's CPU & power source is a enchanted VHS tape called a Master Tape which can be accessed by the hatch hiding behind the logo on the chest. For about 2 hours before the tape needs to be rewound, the wearer can use Advanced Level Video Manipulation. This allows them to create objects such as vehicles, weapons, Exoskeleton Modules and even a giant-sized projection of themselves, though all these constructs are imperfect as they have visual glitches similar to those found on old VHS tapes.
First Appearance: Deviantart (2/3/2019)

A complete re-imagining of Captain Video & his Video Rangers, with this version being kind of a Tokusatsu / Green Lantern kind of character. Mostly because I try to make the name Video Ranger actually have something to do with videos. Though unlike characters like Iron Man & Green Lantern, Video Ranger's suit is more of a product of Cassette Futurism with his video constructs being based around 80s/90s Scifi & pop culture. This character is also a kinda Tokusatsu-esque character, since he does have access to technology that allows him to contend with giant monsters, via his gigantic, hard light holographic projection.

Mostly because February is actually Super Sentai / Tokusatsu month.

You can find this character in Sargasso, The Ever-Changing City in the 80s district which it and some of the 90s district does have aspects of Cassette Futurism in terms of the kind of technology that can be found there as well as having some of it be merged with arcane powers. Kind of like the concept behind Techromancy, but with this character specifically, he's more of a practitioner of Vínteomancy or Video Magic, which involves using specialized video tapes & other video cassettes as a catalyst for spells and rituals and using VCR-esque devices as the "cauldron" if you will. And yes, practitioners still haven't figured out how to set the VCR so it doesn't constantly show it being 12:00.

Edit (2/4/2019): Changed the name from Video Ranger to V.C. Ranger. Mostly because A. I think it rolls off the tongue better and B. I think it still matches with the theme with a modification of VCR.

This character was made using Hero Machine 3.

Video Ranger is an open source character created specifically for use by anyone. Feel free to use it any way you wish. You must also give creator credit.

Great job!

I'm going to be using Captain Video And His Video Rangers and doing an One-Shot science-fiction/action-adventure graphic novel on them(depending on well it does and if people like it,just like with a bunch of the other One-Shot comics that I'll be doing,I'd be open to doing more).

I won't call the comic ''Captain Video And The Video Rangers'' because of how similar that sounds to so many other properties,''Captain Power And The Soldiers Of The Future,''Captain Planet And The Planeteers'',etc.

My version of Captain Video And His Video Rangers will be heavily influenced and inspired by Captain Power And The Soldiers Of The Future,Visionaries,C.O.P.S.(Captain Power,Visionaries and C.O.P.S,for people who read this and who have never heard of them, were all great shows from the Eighties),Terminator,Halo,The Last Star Fighter,Star Wars,Star Trek,Flash Gordon,Buck Rogers(who I'll even be using but just the pulp version and under the name,''Anthony Rogers'' because as the Public Domain Super Heroes site was very careful to highlight and make a point of,the pulp version of Anthony Rogers is PD but all subsequent versions including the nickname ''Buck''and the Buck Rogers comic strips, serials, books and movies are NOT public domain),The Fifth Element,Starship Troopers and Tron.

It's going to be a really wild and fun action-adventure comic.

Interestingly enough and to your point in the description,Captain Video seemingly had nothing to do with video cassette,AT ALL. My version,if I'm being totally honest, won't really have that much to do with video cassette tapes, either.

BUT having said that, it will still have more to do with VHS than the original did and it will take elements from your take in how the suits of high-tech armor that Captain Video And The Video Rangers wear can create hard-light holographic projections(they'll also have built-in,upgraded video camcorders on their suits that record everything they do).But the hard light holographic projections will be limited to being of weapons(and they'll already be armed to the teeth with all manner of laser-guns and weapons),vehicles, exoskeleton modules and giant-sized projections of themselves. It won't be like the Green Lantern Corps or my version of Linkara's Lightbringer, where they can create constructs of virtually anything. They'll be similar to my version of your character Mother Trucker,in the respect that, yes, they can create constructs but within a limited range of things-as opposed to ANYTHING.

But the things that they can create constructs of are all extremely useful, purposeful and practical.

I'm really excited to use Captain Video And The Video Rangers in large part(but not ONLY)because Captain Power And The Soldiers Of The Future was a show I loved as a kid and it's NOT in the public domain,so using Captain Power as a major influence and inspiration for the comic is as close as I'll ever get to being able to use Captain Power,it's like how so many, many of the PD characters that I'll be using, are my chance,in a way,to use characters that are NOT in the public domain. Also,a lot of the toys and action figures I had as a kid are a big influence for my take on Captain Video. If I become successful enough in the future from doing comics and books and am able to start my own business and toy company,as I've talked about before on here as one of my goals and ambitions, then a line of Captain Video And The Video Rangers toys would absolutely be something I would do! Ha! Ha!
