Contrast Paint Test 2

On posting the Sigmarine, I mentioned the Ultima Heretic.  The problem is, I don't have a lot of experience with the new camera in photographing minis, and I can't seem to get this guy's entire form in focus at once.

Anyway, he's proved another thing that doesn't work so well with the contrasts.  Getting the right color depth.

He was store-primed gray seer.  The first coat of "Black Templar" was too pale, but someone else there had a minit with two coats of Black Templar, which was effectively Chaos Black/Abaddon Black in overal hue.  So I put the second coat of Basilicanum Gray, which is so close to Nuln Oil in color and consistancy that I'd not be able to tell them apart.  Anyway, that gave the armor hue as shown.  The pauldrons are Flesh Tearers Red over the Gray seer primer, as is the aquila Imperialis.  His bolter has a few color tests whose hue I don't recall, and will be painted over when I get to my real paints back home.  The auspex is painted creed camo.
