Description

The Skittering Whiptail
First Appearance:
Deviantart (9/26/2019)

Origin
(---"
A type of giant, mutant arachnid the size of a large dog that can be found within The Forests of the Austro, one of the largest forests on the continent of Decemillia that borders The Ever-Changing City and several settlements that are scattered about. Whiptails are mostly solitary predators that hunt similarly to normal Jumping Spiders; jumping from tree to tree as they silently hunt down prey during the day.

The twin, whip-like tails have elastic qualities as they can stretch and retract as well as having a bio-luminescent orb that attracts prey during the night, which said orbs are able to produce a high powered shock that can stun prey. These two traits together allows the Whiptail to use their tails as an offensive weapon as one strike can result in someone becoming helpless long enough for the creature to bit into them with their venomous mandibles as they feed.

One of the most terrifying thing about these creatures is that their mandibles contain a high-powered neurotoxin that can stun even a fully grown elephant for extended periods of time. As during their breeding season, Skittering Whiptails first stun their prey with their tails, then they inject their neurotoxin into the prey to make sure that they stay motionless as the prey is dragged to the whiptail's den. After the prey is moved successfully into their den, the whiptail will then make a small incision in the creature's abdominal area and lay their eggs inside. Since the paralyzed creature is still alive, their body heat will incubate the eggs and their flesh will become the hatchling's first meal.

If the prey is around the size of a triceratops, a large number of Whiptails will each lay their own eggs as the triceratops has enough meat to feed around 50 of the hatchlings, with each Whiptail laying around 1 to 2 eggs per breeding season.

These qualities make Whiptails one of the most dangerous creatures to find within the forest, as they along with other creatures are why couriers have to be with multiple armed escorts as they go to-and-fro from different settlements that are around or in the forest. Though their reputation isn't that much of a deterent to hunters that want to bag one, as they're highly prized for their venom sacs and exoskeleton. Their tails are an even bigger prize as their properties make then valuable crafting materials, as the electricity from their orbs can be useful for energy purposes if used right."---)

One of the many different types of mutated creatures that can be found within the Super-Sargasso Sea. And as a fan of the Monster Hunter games, I figured that I need to add my own beasties to the forest to give ambitious hunters something to hunt besides dinosaurs & mythical creatures; and have a major threat for towns that could end up getting swarmed by an entire pack of Skittering Whiptails.

This character was made using Hero Machine 3.

That's right. The hunters will be in for an extremely rude awakening when they encounter an entire nest of the Skittering Whiptails and things won't at all go the way that they think they will similar to how the situation unfolds when the Colonial Marines first encounter the Aliens in the atmosphere processing plant in Aliens.

I'm so glad that you mentioned Aliens because the Whiptails remind of the Xenomorphs from Aliens(both are these clearly extremely dangerous alien monsters)-especially with how they use their prey and how they use the bodies of those they capture as being basically incubators for alien life.
