In 2016, while everyone else was doing Inktober, I made my own challenge in #Skeletober, and drew the Masters of the Universe villain Skeletor all month long. I did 25 illustrations, and it was fun. You can see those here:
In the following years I did Inktober, which was also fun, but definitely lacked Skeletor, so, you know.
In 2019, I decided that I needed to do something big for October. So I would again do Inktober, but also bring back Skeletober! And I wanted to do a fully illustrated piece for both challenges every day, with Inktober being fully inked illustrations in a sketchbook and Skeletober being full color digital illustrations. With 31 Inktobers and 31 Skeletobers, that would mean...(checks math) 62 pieces of art in the month! Was I insane?
Yes, I was insane. But I was also successful! There were a few bumps in the road (including a power outage that put me behind) but I totally did them all. Here are the all the 2019 Skeletober pieces together and you can find my Inktober pieces here:
I really wanted to use the challenge to experiment with different styles and techniques and depict the character of Skeletor in different ways. He straddles the line between scary and silly, so he's the perfect character for the Halloween season.
My favorites are days 4, 6, 12, 19, and 23. For days 28, 29, and 30, I brought back some concepts from the 2016 Skeletober and tried them again, and for day 31, I did another take on a silly drawing of mine that blew up a bit in September. While there sure is a lot of purple and blue, I'm happy that it's also pretty colorful otherwise too.
