Common Species Questions

Q: How do I get a Chimereon?

A: You can get Chimereons through events, auctions, mod customs, gatchas, and raffles.
• Events will always be found in the Current Events folder in the group’s main gallery.
• Auctions will always be found in the Adoptables folder in the group’s main gallery.
• Mod customs will always be found in the Customs folder in the group’s main gallery. These happen bi-monthly so check back every so often to see who’s open! It varies from mod to mod how each one is held (auction, flatsale raffle, OTA, etc.)
• The Chimereon Gatcha is an occasional (usually yearly) event where multiple guest artists come together and create a large reserve of designs to be sold at a flat rate, rolling random designs to buyers.
• Raffles have two types: Monthly Free FTO and Bi-Monthly Slot Sales. Visit these links to read more and see if they’re open!

Q: Is there a limit to how many Chimereons you can own?

A: Nope! You can have as many as you can obtain.

Q: What does “closed species” mean?

A: A closed species is a concept created by one or more people who make the “rules” of that species (behaviors, appearances, traits, culture, etc.), and has control over how that species is created and used by other people. Communities are often built around these species. In short, it means you cannot make your own without first gaining an MYO slot in the group or otherwise purchasing an officially group-approved Chimereon.

Q: What do MYO and FTO mean?

A: MYO means “Make Your Own” and FTO means “First Time Owner”.

Q: What are Beetoles? How do I get them? Where do I check how many Beetoles I have?

A: Beetoles are the group currency. They can be obtained by following the rules on the Gift Art Event (sixteen Beetoles per month). They can also be earned during events, and can be traded. Check the Treasury to see how many Beetoles you have, as well as how to trade Beetoles.

Q: How do I get my Chimereon on the masterlist?

A: It depends on when/how it was obtained:
• If your Chimereon was approved a long time ago or was part of the Free MYO Event from 2018, comment here to get it on the masterlist.
• If your Chimereon is a new MYO that needs approving, comment here to get it approved. Once approved, it will automatically be uploaded to the masterlist.
• Gatchas and adopts will automatically be added after all of the winners from each batch pay, so no need to comment those anywhere unless they’re old and missing from the masterlist!

Q: How do I update my Chimereon’s masterlist image?

A: Comment on the masterlist entry with the new image uploaded to sta.sh or your dA gallery, and link or screenshot proof of any upgrade items. Please don’t have clothing/accessories covering key parts of the Chimereon for masterlist images. Masterlist images must be transparent and a single fullbody image with no text / color palettes / etc.

Q: Do you have to wait for the masterlist to be updated before you can use your Chimereon / trade it again?

A: At the moment, no, you don’t have to wait.

Q: Do trades have a cool down?

A: For recently made MYOs, there is a 30 day (1 month) trade cooldown period. After those 30 days are up, they can be traded freely. No other Chimereon trades have cooldowns at this time.

Q: Why was my art / journal not accepted into the group?

A: The Chimereon masterlist entry is missing, the ad is missing open/closed in the title, or the commissions were not Chimereon specific/missing a Chimereons-only discount. Or it has only been a few hours and mods have been busy. If it’s been a significant amount of time without approval (2 days), please let us know.

Q: Can we buy items for another user?

A: Sure! Just make sure they confirm the purchase by replying to your shop comment.

Q: Can we trade / gift items?

A: At the moment, only event items can be gifted/traded. We are looking to make an item trade center in the future.

Q: If we don’t want an item, can we exchange it for Beetoles?

A: Yep! Items obtained that have no Beetole exchange equivalent, however, like many event-exclusive items, cannot be exchanged. Keep in mind that only unused items can be exchanged. Once it’s used on a Chimereon, it cannot be refunded.

Q: Is my chameleon character too close to a Chimereon?

A: We don’t deal with these sorts of questions anymore since it’s impossible to police. However, if you are that concerned, make sure to check out some real-life pictures of chameleons for reference. We aren’t going to come after you for taking inspiration from Chimereons, but please do not try to scam others into thinking a furry chameleon adopt is actually an official Chimereon.

Q: Can we make “looking for Chimereons” journals?

A: You can, but they are not allowed to be posted to the group or Discord server unless you’re offering a Chimereon or Chimereon MYO slot in return.

Q: How much are Chimereons worth?

A: It depends on the method of obtaining the Chimereon:
• MYOs and DTA adopts that were free from events have no monetary worth and thus cannot be sold as-is.
• Purchased MYOs, Auctioned Adopts and Moderator Custom Chimereons have a base worth that matches their original price.
• Gen1 Gatcha Chimereons are worth $30 USD. Gen2 Gatcha Chimereons are worth $40 for normal rolls and $60 for special rolls (in which a user could choose what subspecies they got). Gen3 Gatcha Chimereons are worth $50.
• Extra purchased art/commissions and purchased upgrades can add to a Chimereons value. Gift art, extremely expensive items like fursuits, physical items, and art made by the Chimereon’s current and past owners for their own enjoyment do not count towards their value.

Q: Why does my account have to be at least 5 months old to obtain Chimereons?

A: This is to prevent people from using burner accounts to obtain more Chimereons and abuse the system.
• This includes, but is not limited to: using multiple accounts to claim more than one MYO slot, bid in auctions, increase your chance to win events, etc.
• If your account has little to no activity shown (no posts, favorites, etc.), we have the right to refuse participation in events and obtaining Chimereons (even if your account is 5 months or older). An account has to show activity for at least a month or so before we deem it ‘active’. This is normally a case-by-case basis judged by the Chimereon staff.
• Your account does NOT have to be 5 months old to do things such as earning Beetoles, submitting art to the group, and taking commissions within the group.

Q: I moved accounts / changed my username. How do I transfer ownership of my Chimereons to my new account?

A:
• In the case of changing your username, simply comment on your Chimereon’s  masterlist and let us know. Your account should display your previous username and we will simply update it in the masterlist entry.
• In the case of moving accounts, please make sure to note the group from both your old and new account to let us know who you are. If you don’t have access to your old account, you can provide us a screenshot of the deactivation email you were sent from DeviantArt from your old account.

Q: Can you co-own a Chimereon?

A: No. A Chimereon can only be listed under one user within their masterlist entry. However, you are free to "share" a Chimereon with someone else (i.e. allow them to draw / contribute art to it as if it were their own, decide a personality / backstory, etc).
• Please keep in mind that we are not responsible for any outside conflict that may arise should you decide to unofficially co-own a Chimereon with someone. This is a personal risk you are taking that we do not have any say in.

Common MYO / Redesign Questions

Q: How do I upgrade traits?

A: Check out the shop, also linked on the group profile, to see what is available. Make sure to read the description carefully!

Q: Will there be other ways to get other traits not in the shop?

A: There will be at some point. Either through new items added to the shop or event-exclusive items. During events, sometimes Chantilly’s Bakery opens, allowing users to purchase some rarer traits for their Chimereons using a currency (event tickets, etc.) specified in the journal.

Q: How many colors can we use on our MYO slots?

A: It depends on the type of slot:
• For an event slot / free slot, colors are limited -  3 on the body, 1 for the iris (pupils can be any solid color), 1 for the flesh / mouth / blood, 1 for the horn(s) / claws, and 1 for the paw pads.
• For a purchased slot through MYO sales, the colors are unlimited. But paw pads, eyes, horns, and flesh still must be 1 solid color each if no special Multicolor-adding items are being used.

Q: If the eyes/flesh/paw pads/etc of a Chimereon is not showing can I pick the colors?

A: Yes, with the exception of claws; if claws have never been shown on the Chimereon design, they must match the horn(s). If no design was shown for the eyes, flesh, paw pads, etc., you may pick one solid color for each.

Q: Can a Gummy Goo Leaf change the color of horns/flesh/paw pads?

A: No, a Gummy Goo Leaf is currently only for body color additions. An item may be developed in the future for horns/flesh/paw pads.

Q: Can I change a color on my cham? Can a Gummy Goo Leaf change a chams colors?

A: No, a Gummy Goo Leaf can only add colors. With Eye Dye, however, you can freely change the color of a Chimereon’s eyes (as many colors as the eyes originally had).

Q: Can spikes be the same color as the horns?

A: Yes. In fact, if spikes match the horn color, you do not need to buy an extra color for them when adding them or making an MYO with them.

Q: Is there a way to remove colors/horns/traits/etc.?

A: Not at the moment.

Q: Do I have to buy hair growth for a furred cham?

A: No, and you can change the length of any hair/fur as you wish. Hair and fur are the same thing.

Q: Can I remove ears in when adding horns, or vice versa?

A: You can drop one or the other when adding one of them if it makes a Chimereon’s head too cluttered. However, as with all redesigns, it would be good to ask first since horns are a defining feature for some chams.

Q: What kinds of traits can my slot have?

A: Check the masterlist entry for the slot. It should be listed there.

Q: Can I trade my MYO slot?

A: Once they are on the masterlist, of course you can!

Q: Can I offer redesigns/designs to other users?

A: You can if the user has an MYO slot they want you to design. Make sure to run designs by mods first before showing them to the owner so that we can ensure they’re viable designs!

Q: When can I post art of my new Chimereon?

A: After they have been approved, you can show art of them in the Discord server, but for the dA group, they need to be added to the masterlist.

Q: Can my Chimereon freely have magic abilities?

A: A lot of it depends on the type of Chimereon. MYOs can have very minimal/useless to no powers at all, Gatchas can have some small powers, and adopts can have more. Unknown Chimereons tend to have access to fairly strong magic. But in general, if it was not originally listed on the gatcha/adopt, we try to stay reserved when it comes to adding magic traits. We are currently developing a way to obtain magic abilities for any Chimereon, but it’s not ready just yet! After it’s ready, Strong Magic Abilities will be moved to the Mythical category, and thus made unavailable other than our planned method of obtaining. This method will not involve paying money of any kind.

Q: Can I swap out traits for the same rarity?

A: No, you cannot. However, Common horn types can be swapped with each other. This is the only exception.

Q: How large / small can Chimereons be? Is there a way I can increase or decrease their size?

A: It depends on the type:
• MYOs can be 2 ft./0.6 meters to 6 ft./1.8 meters
• Gatchas and Adopts can be 1 ft./0.3 meters to 15 ft./4.5 meters
• The Unknown subspecies can be 0.5 ft./0.15 meters to 25 ft./7.6 meters.
You can increase a Chimereon’s size with a Little Big Cake, purchasable during some events at Chantilly’s Bakery.

Q: Can we add accessories/clothing/prosthetics to our Chimereon?

A: You can! But make sure they don’t resemble any traits (fake horns on a headband, fake wings, permanent face paint, etc.), or make the Chimereon appear like another subspecies (fake feathers sticking out of a Mammalian’s fur, a tentacle-hair wig on a Herpian, etc). Piercings in the horn are fine as long as it is clear they are a piercing. Holes cannot be left in the horn if the piercing is removed.

Common Event Questions

Q: Can I participate when I don’t have a Chimereon of my own?

A: Absolutely! During each event, we often have a linked comment where people can toss up chams for other users to draw. If you are not comfortable with drawing others’ Chimereons, you can draw one of the NPCs!

Q: Does art have to be colored?

A: All entries must be colored.

Q: Can art be traditional?

A: Yes! As long as it still follows the rules.

Q: Does my writing piece have to be good?

A: It needs to be readable and make sense / follow the prompt with legible punctuation. The actual narrative content of your writing, for most events, will not be judged, similar to how an artist’s technical skill will not be judged for most events (except in the event of a DTA / Draw-To-Adopt).

Q: When does the event close?

A: Check the event post’s description for a time and date. It should be listed in EST (Eastern Standard Time) or CST (Central Standard Time). You can also usually find the end date / time on the front page of the Chimereons group under “current events.”

Q: When will my Beetoles be recorded for the event?

A: Beetoles will be recorded by the end of the event at the latest.

Q: Can I have extra time after the event is over to finish my piece?

A: Sadly, no. In very special circumstances, we may allow extensions such as timezone mistakes on the event host’s part, or if the entire website of DeviantArt goes down for a significant amount of time prior to the deadline. You are always free to finish your piece for fun, but it won’t count for the event.

Q: Can art drawn for an event count towards earning Beetoles for gift art?

A: No, since it was created to participate in an event and not solely as a gift. Even if you did not finish your entry in time and decide to finish it for fun, it is still not eligible to earn Beetoles through the gift art event.

Q: Can items from Tilly’s shop be traded?

A: Sure! Just make sure to comment that you traded it to another user on the shop comment so we can keep track. Have the user you’re trading it to comment to confirm just like on the Masterlist.

Q: When will the next gatcha event be?

A: Most likely a year from the last gatcha, but we will let you know far ahead of time when it is happening. It’s something of an annual occurrence.

Q: When will the next event be?

A: We are hoping to get out two large events, a couple of smaller one, and some mini events peppered throughout the year. Midsummer and Midwinter are when the large events will be held if everything goes as planned.
