The S-3c FireHound Fighter/Interceptor spent much of its early life in a state of developmental limbo, as political factors expressed more interest in its less expensive predecessor, they S-3a, and pushed it into production despite being intended as a prototype.  Eventually, military leaders pushed through the full development of the S-3c.  It is more expensive to produce, but this is due to the array of technologically superior features of the S-3c.  Most notably, it replaces the second seat navigator with a guidance and targeting computer system, and offers the single pilot an efficient control layout.  The computer system also includes an optical HUD, which displays vital information on both the canopy of the cockpit, and the pilot's visor.  Other advancements include a more robust framing system around the wings, improved cargo capacity for emergency equipment, a more efficient fuel and coolant distribution system, overall performance enhancements, and according to the pilots, "an actual chair this time."

Now, the S-3c FireHound is in full production, and Renarian military ships, stations, and bases are recieving the new fighters on a priority basis.  Designed primarily for service on the star fleet's heavy carriers, the fast and agile fighter is well suited to direct combat, patrols, and escort missions, and is quickly becoming a favorite of pilots.  A welcome upgrade from the aging S-1, and the slow and heavy S-2, the S-3c's unique three engine configuration allows it to vary thrust on each engine to perform rapid maneuvers in unconventional ways.  Standardized weapon systems and mounting features mean that the ship's wing-mounted heavy cannons can be exchanged for any number of mission-specific equipment, such as sensor pods, fighter-to-ship missiles, or cargo pods.  The unusual landing foot design, made possible by the lightweight nose of the fighter, is designed to allow a compact storage system in crowded hangar decks where floorspace can be at a premium.

So, the lore behind this model is actually kinda true.  I built the prototype version of this fighter a long while ago, and it was a two seater.  (Pictures to come)  I had an idea for modifying it into a 1 seater like this, but I put it off for ages because of the parts I'd have to use to make it look better.  I think in the end though, it was worth it.  All the way through building it and modifying it, my main goal was to make a starfighter inspired by the classic Lego Star wars style, where the ships would have hidden storage comparments.  I wanted mine to be a little nicer looking though.  It's not quite as sleek as I'd like in some places, but I still really like it.  Swooshability: 9/10.
