Ergasies had always had a pretty keen eye for people who didn’t know the city. Easy enough to see them struggle through the hustle and bustle, hard not to see the specific star-eyed gaze that seemed inherent to tourists. Too many people to track by face, but by behavior? Picking out someone who actually lived in the White City from those who were simply visiting was a breeze.

Usually, a newbie was open enough to friends, to a new face. Happy to chat with a local, maybe a bit suspicious, but she’d make do. Easy conversation, easy money, if that was the route she fell back on. A good way to spend some free time, a fun enough distraction while she waited for Elafi to get back from wherever the hell he had wandered off to.

All that was to say that she knew nigh instantaneously that the piebald was not from the City of Messus. First of all, as many ketucari as they were, she was pretty sure that she hadn’t caught that particular patterning and color combination, and it was flashy enough that she doubted she had just overlooked it. Second, they were looking all curiously at the mix of technology in the marketplace- not as googly-eyed as most the tourists she saw, to their credit, but it was obvious enough.

She didn’t have much else to do with her time, and they were definitely pretty enough for her to want to get closer. If anything, she’d be happy enough to waste her time with a pretty toa or kadin. Mind long made up, she wriggled through the crowd with grace that came from experience and a bit too pushy of a personality, tapping a claw against their shoulder.

“Heyo,” she started, not giving the toa she had decided to fix her attention on a chance to speak. “What’cha doing in the City- assuming I guessed right and you aren’t from around here, of course.”

She kept her smile on as he turned around, made sure to turn up her charm. No need to scare him off. Thankfully enough, he didn’t seem shy- maybe a little too idealist, if she was honest. Had she been in the mood, she was rather certain she could’ve robbed him blind right there- but she wasn’t, luckily for him.

Names were exchanged, the moniker of ‘Haze’ put to his face, her own name given in return. Not that it would help him find her, if she chose not to be found. Beyond his rather surprising idealism, she confirmed that he was indeed not from around Messus- he’d been travelling around the whole world, apparently, learning whatever they could from the ketucari they encountered. Of course, like any friendly kadin, she offers to take the role of his guide through the City of Messus- after all, she does live there.

It was pleasant enough, guiding the toa through the marketplace of the city, pointing out locations both pleasant and best avoided. He was a quick enough learner, the conversation engaging enough to break up the monotony she generally faced when her dear Elafi was gone. She led him through the less shady areas she frequented, told him what she felt was necessary for the ‘Messus City Experience’- or at least a less crime-ridden version of it. In return, he told her stories of the many places he had visited throughout his travels. By the time she bid him polite goodbyes with a wave of her tail, she had a good few snippets she would certainly repeat, and a sense of fulfillment suitably greater than she experienced on a usual monotonous day of people watching.

Overall, a worthwhile waste of time, she supposed.
