Game Character Animating Idea

I've seen an artist using this idea. He draws parts and then trace them to make his game characters animation looks smooth.
Yeah, I tried making a movie with it. Obviously, I failed and left with this small animation. Maybe it is because I didn't plan it, though. =\

Now I am convinced that this idea is only suitable for making games characters.
